For Joe Liebke, founder of Villaway, Costa Rica isn’t just a destination—it’s a lifelong devotion. Since his first trip in 1989, Joe has returned more than 40 times, living in the country for over two years and building deep relationships with villa owners, property managers, business owners and local surf communities. What began as a surf trip evolved into a love story with the land, the people, and the lifestyle.

Though Villaway launched globally in 2015, Costa Rica remains Joe’s passion project. In 2020, he launched CostaRicaVillas.co, a handpicked collection of the country’s most stunning private homes—each personally vetted by Joe and his trusted network.

A true globe-trotting surfer, Joe has chased world-class waves across Bali, Hawaii, Tahiti, Brazil, Australia, New Zealand, France, Spain and beyond.
